I came to a startling realization last night as I walked into my bedroom, hit the light switch, and heard that unmistakable tiny metallic pop—a flash of light and then sudden darkness. The sound of that luminous filament finally calling it quits. Standing there in the dark I realized that in the full year I have lived in this apartment I have never once changed a light bulb. And gazing up at the light fixture positioned so nice and centrally on my sloping high ceiling (previously such a perk), I suddenly shared my roommate’s dislike of overhead lighting (although he dislikes it for reasons other than difficult bulb replacement situations…). I thought about calling the super to come change it for me, but then I couldn’t even think of where we might have more bulbs, plus it was 11pm and I was slightly hesitant to perhaps wake him to aid me in my pathetic plight. And as it was already late, I didn’t bother to do anything about it—except to laugh at myself for being so helpless as I crawled into bed.

New York has made it so easy to be lazy. All I really lack is a trash chute on my floor—so I don’t have to ride the elevator to the basement to dispose of my refuse… I’ll make sure my next apartment has one.

OMG 3 MONTHS. ONLY 3 MOTHS TO HARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {i am a little upset about one line in this… total spoiler… i mean not for me, i know the whole friggen series by heart, but still…} ENJOY!

I’ve never been very good at dealing with loss or hard times. To quote Chandler Bing (who is the Friends character I would be according to the wide world of internet quizzes). “I’m not so good with the advice… Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment??” that’s pretty much how I function, so the past 2 days have been fairly rough on me.

The economy has finally caught up with my office, and for the first time in their ten years of business they had to let people go-I guess that is a common occurrence these days. And although my job is safe (for now…) I had to watch some of my friends pack up their desks. I feel like every thing has changed there now, and it sucks. It is just a really crappy feeling that I’ve never really had to deal with.

Further, the Oakland/Anaheim game tonight has been postponed because the Angels rookie pitcher –Nick Adenhart– was killed in a car crash this morning. He was 22. So very tragic. And-I know it’s a little silly- but that news really made me wish that I got to see my little brother more. Silly only because it shouldn’t take a kid of a similar age and dream as my bro dying to make me realize that. But I guess that’s life. We tend to take things for granted and it isn’t until something hits close to home that we realize how lucky we are.

I know there has to be a silver lining somewhere under all this shittiness, I just hope it shows up soon.

I am currently facing a dilemma. A provoking question of morals and loyalty. A pressing issue involving a green and gold jersey that sports the number 33.

33- Nick Swisher. My darling Nick Swisher played with the A’s from 04-07, before he got traded to Chicago. And then: the unthinkable occurred. He was sent to the Yankees. I have forever hated the Yankees and everything about them. I detest their fans (at least during games…) and everyone of their players. But I can’t hate Swisher. We go way back, we even hung out on my birthday one year, look:

So what’s a girl to do? (besides start follow Swisher on Twitter… you know, so I know what bars to go to… haha, j/k… maybe) Can I break out my Swisher jersey and sport it on the mean streets of NYC? And more poingntly–at that shiny new Stadium in the Bronx(on the 20th when Oakland is in town)? Will it say what I want it to say– I love the A’s, and have always been a fan of Nick? Or will it make me look silly, wearing the jersey of a guy who’s not on my team any more… and now plays for the other guys?

Maybe it is what I finally need to fit into the New York sporting world. A Yankee I can cheer for. A Yankee I don’t have to hate. Common ground to share with the fans.

Yah right– as soon as I get anywhere near that ball park sporting my green and gold Swisher gear I am going to hear about it. About how we don’t have him any more, how the A’s suck, how (if he’s had an off day) Swisher sucks (Yankees fans, they’re brutal). I’m sure I’ll be thanked for taking back Giambi too. Ah well… I love it, don’t I?

Welcome to New York Nick.

Tonight I turned off all my lights (and the TV and the computer [I KNOW!!]) at 8:30 as a part of Earth Hour. Louis and I went on a walk and discovered that NYC turned off the lights on the George Washington Bridge for the hour! I got all excited and tried to take pics–there’s an example below–however I stopped paying attention to where I was walking and stepped in a nice pile of dog poo that someone neglected to clean up (for some reason no one picks up after their dogs on 179th street, idk what that is about.) Not the best start to Earth Hour, but luckily I had The Tales of Beedle the Bard to read by candle light when I got home and that made life good again.

I thought I wanted heels for K’s graduation( you know, so I’d look like I belong in my family) but that was before I found these:

I may just have to embrace my shortness. Who cares if I have those fabulous shoes, right?

UPDATE: oh god- they come in yellow. I have died and gone to sandal heaven.
