Politics and Pick-up Lines

Tonight I attending my first ever Election event–an Obama Party. A bunch of Obama supporters gathered in a bar like area, watching the primary results on big screens, cool. I’m not really sure what the point of this was, I suppose to raise money and awareness of the campaign…and give people like me the opportunity to feel like they are really doing something for the cause.Really I found it to be an excellent new venue for meeting awkward guys. For example- The four of us girls were standing talking with ourselves when 2 guys came over, and open up the conversation with “Hey- are you guys here for the Obama party?”
First of all- you had to RSVP to this even, and then stand in line to get in, and then have your name checked off the RSVP list- second it is in some random bar above a bowling ally, that you have to ride a tiny elevator to get to. Obviously that’s why we’re there. But I have to feel a little sorry for them–they were unaware they’d addressed their question to the Queen of Sarcasm, who also happened to be raised in a house hold where “ask a stupid question- get a stupid answer” was a way of life. I of course spout off some quip about how I was not even aware there was anything going on, I was just looking for the bowling ally, and actually really am hoping that Ron Paul pulls out a big win…. Which spurs them to launch into their own comedy routine about how Ron Paul is the Ralph Nader of the Republican party, at which point I am forced to become overly interested in what Tom Brokaw is saying, causing the awkwards to finally wander off.
Next, the guys across our little bar area from us, ask if we know which state has a grater population- NY or FL. NY duh… but this turns into a blackberry internet search, and we come to the conclusion that “cuff-links” (who posed the question) was forgetting to count Long Island in his assessment of NY, which is why he believed FL had the grater population.Winner all around.
By the time we left all we really learnd for sure is that Tom Brokaw is 68 years old, Vickie has a Dave and Busters membership card, and Texas is too close to call…
